Writing is an important skill in English language. It is one of ways to deliver information to the people. This kind of skill is taught in school from junior high school to senior high school. It is not easy to master writing skills. The writer conducted this study in order to find out the students’ errors and also to know the students’ difficulties in writing a recount text at SMP Negeri 6 Banda Aceh of second grade students. The method of this study was mixed method. The writer collected students’ recount text and gave questionnaires for them. The analysis of students’ writing was done by looking at the generic structure and language features. The result of questionnaire data was calculated. Based on students’ writing, in the language features, the most students are difficult to use past tense in writing recount text. They understood well the generic structure of recount text which are orientation and event sequence. Meanwhile, the result of the questionnaire showed the students were not really difficult to write a recount. They well understood about the language features and the generic structure in writing a recount text. Thus, according of both data, students should learn more how to create a good recount text by using past action verb.&#13;
