Title : A Contrastive Analysis of Affixes between English and Gayonese

Keywords: English and Gayonese, distribution function and meaning, affixes, contrastive analysis
Analyzing any languages is beneficial to understand how languages work. The analysis can also be done between two languages simultaneously by comparing their similarities and differences in terms of sounds, grammar and vocabulary. This study aims at finding out whether there are correspondence, partly correspondence and non-correspondence of analysis of distribution, function, and meaning of affixes between English and Gayonese. This study was concentrated on contrastive analysis in microlinguistics because the analysis of this study is internal structure of the affixes. It is a descriptive qualitative study with contrastive analysis approach. The data of affixes between the languages were collected from secondary sources and analyzed with the contrastive analysis. The result of data analysis showed that affixes between English and Gayonese are half correspondence. Distribution and function showed there are many similarities, whilst meaning showed there are a few similarities. Therefore, it can be concluded that affixes in the languages have some similarities in distribution, function, and meaning. Conducting contrastive analysis study between two languages in Morphology helps us to know whether there are similarity or not of how a word forms.</note>
