Acehnese younger generations seem to have unfavorable attitudes of their mother tongue and switch their language into Bahasa Indonesia. This study is intended to find out the attitudes of the SMAN 3 Banda Aceh and SMAN 1 Kr. Barona Jaya Aceh Besar students towards the use of the Acehnese language. The sample of this study were 60 students (30 students from each school). They were chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The data of this study were collected through questionnaire that consists of 34 statements, interview guide that consists of 10 questions, and open ended observation. The questionnaire data were responded through five-point Likert scale. The data from questionnaire was analyzed to find out the percentage of the responses given by the respondents. The data from interview was transcribed by rewriting all the result of interview and the data from observation was transcribed in list form. The findings showed that students of SMAN 3 Banda Aceh and SMAN 1 Kr. Barona Jaya Aceh Besar tend to have positive attitude towards the Acehnese language. They still use the Acehnese language in daily communication although occasionally it is replaced with Indonesian language.
