This thesis is written under the title “Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension through Think-Pair-Share Model”. This research was conducted as the researcher found that the students’ reading ability particularly critical comprehension were unsatisfactory. In addition, the researcher also faced a problem with her way in teaching process; even the students were put in groups, they did not improve their reading ability. They were passive and tended to work individually. Therefore, this research was conducted to find out how Cooperative Learning TPS model is implemented in Reading class and what the students’ responses toward it. This research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) and was done in 2 cycles. The procedure of the research consists of planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflection. The instruments used in collecting the data were the pre-test, post-test, observation sheet for the researcher and students, and questionnaire for the students. The result of the research showed that implementing Cooperative Learning TPS is effective in improving the students’ reading comprehension especially critical comprehension. It can be shown by the result of tests conducted, the students’ mean score of pre-test is 38,3 and it increases to be 67,5 at the end of cycle 1, and reaches 77,5 at the end of cycle 2. Furthermore, the percentage of the students’ participation in the teaching learning process increases gradually. This is proved by the result of the observation checklist where the percentage of the students’ involvement is 63,75% (Fair category) in the first cycle and increases up to 93,75% (Very Good category) in the second cycle. It means that they work cooperatively in running all the activities. Furthermore, based on the result of the questionnaire given, the students respond positively toward the implementation of the action. It shows that the students’ responses reach the level of Strongly Agree which means that they respond positively to the model of learning implemented. Thus, based on the findings, it is suggested that other researchers and teachers who have problems in their teaching reading try to implement this type of learning. Besides, it might help to overcome the problems encountered by teachers as well as students particularly in critical comprehension, the students can share their ideas, and background of knowledge.
