Title : The Correlation between Students’ Vocabulary Mastery and
 Their Listening Comprehension

Keywords: Listening skill, Vocabulary mastery, National Examination
This study was aimed at finding out if there is any significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their listening skill. This study took place in SMA Negeri 8 Banda Aceh. The sample of this study was students of class IX IPA 5 which was taken by using simple random sampling. The National Examination questions of listening and vocabulary were distributed to the students who had been selected as the sample of this study. The students were asked to answer those questions. The result of this study showed that there was a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery of the students and their listening skill. It could be seen from the result of correlation analysis using Product-Moment which had a value (r) 0.788, where the value is considered as high level and the result of significant correlation test shows the value of t-test was 10.97. Therefore, it showed that the correlation between vocabulary mastery and listening comprehension was highly positive. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) “There is a significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their listening comprehension” is accepted and null hypothesis (H0) “There is no significant correlation between students’ vocabulary and their listening comprehension” is rejected. In conclusion, there is a correlation between vocabulary mastery and listening comprehension.
