This research was conducted at SMA Baitussalam. This research was intended to find
out whether the use of picture give a significant effect in students speaking skill and increase students’ interest in learning speaking. The researcher used purposive
sampling technique. The sample of this research was the students of grade XII-2. For
the technique of data collection, the researcher used pre-test, treatment and post-test. The materials used in the speaking tests were pictures. The scoring of speaking aspects were pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. In analyzing the data, the researcher used statistical formula. The mean score of pre-test was 11.4 and the post-test was 13.08. The finding showed that the improvement of the mean was 1.68. The critical value of 0.05 significant level and 23 degree of freedom was 2.069. The result of t-test (3.487) was higher than t-table (2.069). Moreover, the research finding of students’ questionnaire by using the likert scale formula was 77.19% and it was categorized as agree. As the result, there was a significant effect of teaching speaking by using picture and there was increase of the students’ motivation in learning speaking of students XII-2 SMA Baitussalam.
