<note>This study explored introduction section of students’ English undergraduate scripts. Then, the objective of the study is to find out the rhetorical preferences used by the students in their introduction section of script. A qualitative method was used in this study which analyzed the undergraduate script in the part of the introduction section. The data of this research were English undergraduate scripts introduction section written by twenty Acehnese students. The instrument used for collecting data was only from documentation in form of introduction section of undergraduate script. The data were collected from four state universities/institutes in Aceh. Then, the data were analyzed by using Incecay’s framework (2015) and Swales’s CARS model (2005). The result of the first analysis demonstrated that the English writings tend to be in a deductive style and maintained the linearity of the idea, but it was poorly done by the Acehnese students who wrote inductively and the idea of the paragraph was circular. Moreover, since the secondary analysis analyzed the moves structure in introduction section of script, then the result indicated that the cyclical pattern of move in the introduction section recurred because the placement of the moves and step is arranged randomly. It is due to the rhetorical preferences in the Introduction section being followed inductively. Since both analyses above identified several aspects of the text, the conclusion led to the rhetorical preferences of the Acehnese students were in oriental style in which the communication was indirect and the topic served was not address head on.</note>
