This research is aimed at investigating how English teachers at SMAN 1
Banda Aceh perceive KTSP(School-Based Curriculum) and 2013 Curriculum and to
find out the challenges faced by English teachers at SMAN 1 Banda Aceh in creating
English lesson plans of KTSP and 2013 Curriculum. It also tried to find out what
might help English teachers at SMAN 1 Banda Aceh to deal with the challenges. The
participants of this research were two English teachers at SMAN 1 Banda Aceh who
have been teaching under KTSP and 2013 Curriculum. The instruments for this
research were interview guide and document analysis. Based on the interview result, I
found that the period in the implementation of the lesson plan affects the perception
of the teachers toward the English lesson plan such as: teachers perceive that they are
familiar in using the English lesson plan in KTSP and they need adaptation in using
the English lesson plan in 2013 Curriculum because it is still new to them and they
have to learn it again. I also found that the teachers did not faced challenges in
creating the English lesson plan in KTSP but they faced challenges in creating the
English lesson plan in 2013 Curriculum mainly in terms of developing assessment
and formulating indicators in 2013 curriculum lesson plan. Furthermore, the
assistance for teachers to deal with challenges in creating English lesson plan – i.e.
consultation with fellow teachers, attending training and discussing with English
teachers at MGMP (Subject Teachers Meeting). In addition, I analyzed the teachers’
lesson plans in KTSP and 2013 Curriculum to obtain additional support of the
interview result. Based on the analysis of the teachers’ English lesson plans, it
showed that the teachers have designed English lesson plans in KTSP and 2013
Curriculum by following the regulation of the government and all components of the
lesson plans were complete. The design of the lesson plans is only incomplete in
rubrics assessment and they did not formulate the limit of time for their learning
activities.
