Title : Teaching Speaking by Using Group Investigation Technique to Improve Students’ Speaking Performance (An Experimental Research in SMAN 1 Banda Aceh)


This study aims at examining whether the use of group investigation technique improves students’ performance in English speaking ability. Quantitative approach with experimental study of pre experimental design type of one group pre-test and post-test design was under taken to overcome the problems faced by students in learning speaking skill. The instrument used to collect the data in this study by means of the test in the form of oral test. The result of the test analyzed by using speaking criteria proposed by Brown (2004). In addition, some statisctical formulate were also used to analyze the data. From the results of the study revealed there is a significant improvement on students’ performance in speaking ability after the group investigation technique implemented. Thus, group investigation can be one of alternative techniques used by the teacher in teaching English particularly teaching speaking in EFL class.
