Title : The Use of Information Gap Activities in Improving Students’ Speaking Skills (An Experimental Study at the Second Grade of SMPN 2 Darul Imarah, Aceh Besar)

The objective of this research is to find out whether information gap activities can improve students’ speaking skills of junior high school students. This research uses quasi experimental research design. This research took place at SMP Negeri 2 Darul Imarah, Aceh Besar. A second grade class was chosen as the research sample, which consisted of 30 students. The research instrument used to gather the data was scored by using pretest and posttest. The result of the research was analyzed by using paired t-score formula. The calculation result shows that the t-score of this research is 2.45 and the critical value of t-score in significance of 0.05 stated at 1.67 in t distribution with 58 degree of freedom. It means that null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, which proves that Information Gap Activities effectively improves the second grade students’ speaking skills.
