Title              	: Using Small Group Discussion Technique In Teaching Speaking (An Experimental Research At SMPN 5 Banda Aceh &#13;

This study aims to find out whether small group discussion can be appropriate technique in teaching speaking. Besides, she focused on using small group discussion technique in teaching speaking at second grade of SMPN 5 Banda Aceh. The sample of  this study was one class at VIII-1 class which consists of 21 students that taken by using purposive sampling. In this study, the writer used experimental research in order to test the hypothesis. The instrument which is used to collect the data was oral test. The data were processed quantitatively by using statistical formula to measure the students’ ability before and after treatment; t-score. From the result, it was found that mean of pre-test and post-test was different. The mean of pre-test was 56.19 and the mean of post-test was 73.80. The result of the study revealed that there is a significant improvement of students’ speaking performance after group discussion was used as technique implemented. In addition, group discussion can be one of alternative techniques used by the teacher in teaching speaking.&#13;
