This research aims to find out whether Herringbone Technique improved students’ &#13;
reading  comprehension  especially  in  finding  main  idea  and  supporting  detail. &#13;
Herringbone  is  one  of  the  techniqueswhich  can  help  students  find  important &#13;
information and main idea in a text by seeking answer six comprehension questions &#13;
(who, what, where, when, why, how)  on diagram. The sample of this research was &#13;
class  VIII3  which  consisted  of  30  students.  The  researc her  used  simple  random &#13;
sampling to choose the sample. This research used one group pre -test and post-test &#13;
design;  it  is  one  of  research  designs  in  experimental  research.  Pretest  was  given &#13;
before treatment, while posttest was given after students taught by using Herringbone &#13;
Technique. The instruments used in this research were tests; they were pretest and &#13;
post-test. Both pretest and post test consisted of  ten  questions. The technique of data &#13;
analysis,  the  researcher  used  statistical  formula. The mean  score  o f  pretest  was 59 &#13;
and  the  post-test  was  76.  Futhermore,  the  result  of  calculation  of t -test  was  10.15, &#13;
while the critical value of 0.05 significant  level  was 2.045 and degree of freedom is &#13;
29.  T  –test  (10.15)  was  higher  than  t-score  table  (2.045).  It  can  be  concluded  that &#13;
using  Herringbone  Technique  in  teaching  reading  can  increase  students’  reading &#13;
comprehension.</note>
