Title : Enhancing Student’s Speaking Competence by Applying
Mingle Activity (An Experimental Study at Second Grade
SMPN 1 Banda Aceh)

This study was conducted to verify if Mingle Activity could enhance the students’
speaking competence in term of pronounciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and
comprehension at the second grade of SMPN 1 Banda Aceh 2016/ 2017. The method
of this study was quantitative with experimental study. The subject of this study was
28 students from the second grade students class VIII-1. To achieve the goal of this
study, the writer conducted the study for five meetings. From the result of the test,
the writer found that the mean score of pre-test was 69.7 and post-test was 83.7.
From the results, the highest percentage in this study was fluency in 23.7%. Then
followed by grammar with 23.4%. The third was vocabulary with 20.3% . The forth
was pronunciation in 18.3%. The fifth, it was comprehension in 14.3%. Finally, from
analyzing t-test formula, the writer found that t value>ttable
with the value of
19.18>1.70329. It proved that the alternative hypothesis (H
a) of this study is accepted
and the null hypothesis (H
0
) is rejected.
