The objective of this research is to find out whether animated storytelling can improve students’ reading aloud ability or not. The research was focused on the use of animated storytelling in teaching reading aloud. The quantitative approach with true experimental design was used in this research study. The population of this research was the first grade students at SMPN 11 Banda Aceh. The class VII/2 selected as the experimental group and class VII/1 as the control group. The random sampling technique was used to select the class as experimental and control groups since both classes were the same level of achievement after checking their scores in English examination that conducted by the teacher. The research instrument used in this study was reading aloud test. The data was collected from the pre-test and post-test result. The data was analyzed by using statistical formula and SPSS 17. The calculation showed that the gain score of experimental group was higher than the control group. Especially, the score of rate aspect in experimental group noted the higher improvement than the other aspects. In conclusion, the use of animated storytelling can improve the students’ reading aloud ability.
