ABSTRACT Name : Fenny Nurlita Study Program : Dentistry Title : The Relationship between Toothbrushing Technique with Gingival Recession (Analysis of Patients in Kuta Alam Public Health centre) Gingival recession is the exposure of root surface due to migration of gingival margin to the apical position of cemento enamel junction. Improper of toothbrushing technique is one of the supporting factors of gingival recession. The scientists explain that gingival recession resulting from mechanical trauma of toothbrushing was usually found on the lower canine and premolars. Some studies shows that there was argument between the relationship toothbrushing technique with gingival recession. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between toothbrushing technique with gingival recession. This study is a non-experimental cross sectional design on patients aged 27-45 years in Kuta Alam Public Health Centre Clinic. Subjects were 40, 20 subjects who brushed their teeth with vertical technique and 20 subjects who brushed their teeth with a horizontal technique. All of the subjects are interviewed to collect the subject according to the criteria and clinical examination to see the state of gingival recession and then performed the data collection. Analytical data was using the Chi-Square statistical to see the relationship between toothbrushing technique with gingival recession and T-test to see the severity of gingival recession.
