ABSTRAK

Telah dilakukan penelitian uji porositas dan kuat tekan papan partikel dari serbuk kayu dengan perekat PVAc. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi ukuran partikel terhadap porositas dan kuat tekan papan partikel dari serbuk kayu serta dapat memberikan informasi mengenai pemanfaatan serbuk kayu sebagai papan partikel yang memiliki porositas dan kekuatan yang baik serta ramah lingkungan. Dalam penelitian ini, serbuk kayu menjadi bahan baku utama pembuatan papan partikel dengan variasi ukuran partikel besar (20 mesh), sedang (40 mesh) dan kecil (80 mesh). Untuk pengujian porositas dan kuat tekan ukuran sampel yang digunakan yaitu 15 cm x 2,5 cm x 1 cm. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai porositas mengalami kegagalan dan hasil uji kuat tekan papan partikel sangat dipengaruhi oleh ukuran partikel. Semakin besar ukuran partikel maka nilai kuat tekan yang dihasilkan semakin tinggi yaitu sebesar ? = 0,0792 Mpa. Ada ketidaksesuaian antara teori dan hasil penelitian tentang pengaruh ukuran partikel terhadap kuat tekan. Secara teori, semakin kecil ukuran partikel, maka nilai kuat tekannya semakin besar. Namun hasil penelitian menunjukkan data yang sebaliknya.

ABSTRACT



The study of porosity and compressive strength tests particle board of wood shavings with PVAc adhesive has been done. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of variations in particle size on porosity and compressive strength of the particle board of wood powder and can provide information on the utilization of wood powder as particle board that has good porosity and strength as well as environmentally friendly.In this study, the sawdust into the main raw material particle board with a variety of large particle size (20 mesh), medium (40 mesh) and smaller (80 mesh).For porosity and compressive strength testing of the sample size used is 15 cm x 2,5 cm x 1 cm. The results showed that the failure of porosity value and results for the compressive strength of the particle board is strongly influenced by particle size.The larger the particle size, the compressive strength of the resulting value is getting higher at ? = 0,0792 Mpa. There is a discrepancy between theory and research results on the effect of particle size on compressive strength.In theory, the smaller the particle size, the greater the value of compressive strength.However, the results showed the data to the contrary.
