Title : A Descriptive Study on Error Analysis of Students’ Writing Skill

Keywords: Description, Error Analysis and Students’ Writing

Writing is a process to construct sentences which demands students to learn language
grammar in order to have a good writing. Meanwhile, students cannot comprehend
grammar intensively so they often produce errors regarding to grammatical rules in
writing. Therefore, this research attempts to find out what common errors committed
by second grade students of SMA Inshafuddin on their writing of narrative text. The
categorizations of errors are omission, addition, misinformation (regularization,
archi-Forms and alternating forms) and misordering. The method used here is
descriptive qualitative that reveals the description of the categorization of errors
that committed by 22 students. The result showed that most students committed these
four errors (addition, omission, misinformation and misordering) with the total
number of the errors were 408 errors which misinformation was the most dominant
error occurred on the writing with its total number of error was 229 and percentage
was 56,2 %. Therefore, teachers should pay more attention to teach students some
grammar items which relates to the errors that mostly produced in narrative text such
as past tense rules, article, verb and noun inflections.</note>
