Title : Improving Students’Reading Skill by Using Reciprocal Teaching Strategy (RTS) (An Experimental Study at The Second Years Students of MAS Al-Manar Aceh Besar)

Keywords: Reciprocal Teaching, Reading Comprehension

Reciprocal teaching strategy is a process to comprehend text by using four steps which is done by teacher and the students to build their speculation about the text, which is prediction, clarifying, questioning, and summarizing (palinscar & Brown, 1984). The sample of this study was class XIb which consisted of 14 students. The writer used purposive sampling to choose the sample. This study used one group pretest-posttest design; it is one of research designs in experimental research. The instruments used in this study were tests; they were pretest and post-test. Both pre-test and post-test consisted of twenty questions. The materials used in the test were hortatory exposition texts. This research was analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation result showed that t value is higher than t table (10.035 > 1.771), at the 0.05 level significance. It means that alternatives hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. So, it can be concluded that using reciprocal teaching strategy in teaching reading has improved students’ reading comprehension.
