Title                             : The Use of Aunthentic Materials in Teaching Reading (An Experimental Study at The Second Grade Students of SMAN 12 Banda Aceh)&#13;

This study is aimed at finding out whether the use of authentic material increases students’ reading ability or not. The sample of this study was at II-IPA 2 class consists of 18 students. This study was pre-experimental research. To complete the data, the technique used is test. The data was processed as one-pretest post-test design by using statistical formula to measure the students’ ability in pre-test and post-test before and after treatment; t-score. After conducting the experiment, the researcher found that students’ reading ability increased by using the authentic materials. The result of the study showed that there was improvement on students’ reading ability after using the authentic material. It showed that mean score of pre-test was 55.5 and post-test was 76.1. In addition, using the authentic material is suggested to the English teacher in order to improve the students’ reading ability.&#13;
