 <note>This research was intended to determine the hazard level of drought and&#13;
mitigation efforts. The study was conducted in Pidie Jaya from January to&#13;
November 2015 by descriptive method. The results showed that the drought&#13;
hazard levels could be classified into three classes: severe, moderate, and light.&#13;
The hazard level of drought in Pidie Jaya for 10 years (2004-2013) was&#13;
categorized as light level of drought (76480.32 ha). Bandar Dua Sub district has a&#13;
high hazard level of drought (7.84 ha) due to the severe of potential drought&#13;
factor. The Mitigation effort at light drought hazard level area was by assigning&#13;
hazard assessments, such as identification and understanding of risk and effects of&#13;
drought and identification of water necessity and availability. Some mitigation&#13;
efforts in moderate drought hazard level area were dissemination of information&#13;
about the potential dangers based on the hazard identification, follow up the&#13;
potential drought, and water saving campaign. The mitigation efforts in Bandar&#13;
Dua Sub district were by priority setting on water and reservoir utilization,&#13;
repairing and constructing facilities, infrastructure, and availability of water&#13;
irrigation. Public water supply can be pursued by making conventional or&#13;
boreholes wells and by providing the drinking water by tanker or water pump.&#13;

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat bahaya dan upaya mitigasi&#13;
kekeringan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kabupaten Pidie Jaya pada bulan Januari&#13;
sampai dengan November 2015 dengan metode deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini&#13;
menunjukkan bahwa tingkat bahaya kekeringan di Pidie Jaya berada pada tiga&#13;
kelas, yakni kekeringan tinggi, sedang dan rendah. Tingkat bahaya kekeringan di&#13;
Pidie Jaya selama 10 tahun (2004-2013) berada pada kelas ringan (76480.32 ha).&#13;
Kecamatan Bandar Dua memiliki tingkat bahaya kekeringan tinggi (7.84 ha)&#13;
akibat faktor potensi kekeringan yang tinggi. Upaya mitigasi pada tingkat bahaya&#13;
kekeringan rendah berupa tindakan penilaian bahaya, seperti pengenalan dan&#13;
pemahaman resiko dan dampak kekeringan serta mengidentifikasi kebutuhan dan&#13;
ketersediaan air. Beberapa tindakan mitigasi pada tingkat bahaya kekeringan&#13;
sedang antara lain penyebarluasan informasi potensi bahaya sesuai hasil&#13;
identifikasi dan menindaklanjuti potensi kekeringannya serta sosialisasi&#13;
penghematan air. Penanganan mitigasi pada wilayah Bandar Dua antara lain&#13;
penetapan prioritas berupa pemanfaatan air, waduk, perbaikan ataupun&#13;
pembangunan sarana, prasarana pengairan dan ketersediaan air sesuai dengan&#13;
kebutuhannya. Pemenuhan kebutuhan air masyarakat dapat diupayakan&#13;
pembuatan sumur maupun sumur bor, penyediaan air minum dengan mobil tangki&#13;
hingga pompa air.&#13;
