Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS).

ABSTRACT
Has been testing the tablet hardness level using the technique of Laser Induced
Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). The purpose of this study to determine that the
LIBS technique can be used to test the hardness of tablets and their application to
control the quality of pharmaceutical products primarily in the form of tablets.
This research uses technique of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)
by calculating the ratio between the intensity of Mg (II) and the intensity of Mg
(I), at a wavelength of 279.5 nm and 285.2 nm. Sample tablet that is used there
are several kinds, namely tablets commercial (Paracetamol and Dumin), tablets
are made in the form of pellets with pressure variations compression 2, 4, 6, 8 and
10 N/m
2
, and the tablets commercially contaminated as a result of storage that
are less well and the length of time the tablets torage. The research found that the
LIBS technique can be used to test the hardness of tablets, and the relationship
between the level of compression pressure on the value of the ratio is linear, as
well as contaminated commercial tablet has a high ratio that is equal to 9.1 when
compared with the tablet uncontaminated ratio is equal 3.8. The conclusion from
this research is that the technique of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy
(LIBS) can be used to test the hardness of tablets and can be used to control
quality of pharmaceutical products primarily in tablet dosage forms.
