Tragedi tsunami Aceh tahun 2004 telah banyak direpresentasikan melalui
dokumentasi faktual, tetapi pengembangannya ke dalam karya seni tiga dimensi
yang memadukan simbol budaya Aceh dengan material shrink paper masih belum
banyak dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang desain karya tiga dimensi
yang merepresentasikan visual tragedi tsunami Aceh, menciptakan karya tiga
dimensi menggunakan bahan shrink paper, serta mengetahui tanggapan informan
terhadap karya yang dihasilkan. Penelitian menggunakan metode eksperimen
terapan dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi,
eksperimen, wawancara, dan dokumentasi terhadap lima informan yang dipilih
menggunakan purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karya
yang dihasilkan berhasil mengintegrasikan simbol budaya Aceh, seperti motif awan
meucanek, Masjid Raya Baiturrahman, dan PLTD Apung, sebagai representasi
visual tragedi tsunami Aceh. Penerapan teknik layered paper menggunakan bahan
shrink paper menghasilkan efek kedalaman visual, transparansi, serta perubahan
karakter material setelah proses penyusutan yang memperkuat penyampaian narasi
visual tragedi tsunami Aceh. Informan menilai karya memiliki kualitas estetika
yang baik, mampu menyampaikan nilai budaya dan sejarah, serta berpotensi
dikembangkan sebagai media edukasi dan produk kreatif berbasis budaya Aceh.
Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan shrink paper dalam karya tiga
dimensi merupakan alternatif media yang efektif untuk merepresentasikan memori
kolektif tragedi tsunami Aceh sekaligus mendukung pelestarian budaya melalui
pendekatan seni kontemporer.

The 2004 Aceh tsunami has been widely represented through factual documentation; however, its development into three-dimensional artworks that integrate Acehnese cultural symbols with shrink paper as the primary material remains limited. This study aimed to design three-dimensional artworks representing the visual tragedy of the Aceh tsunami, create the artworks using shrink paper, and examine informants' responses to the resulting artworks. The study employed an applied experimental method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, experimentation, interviews, and documentation involving five informants selected using purposive sampling. The findings indicate that the resulting artworks successfully integrated Acehnese cultural symbols, including the awan meucanek motif, the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, and the PLTD Apung, as visual representations of the Aceh tsunami tragedy. The application of the layered paper technique using shrink paper produced visual depth, transparency, and changes in the material characteristics after the shrinking process, thereby strengthening the visual narrative of the Aceh tsunami tragedy. The informants considered the artworks to possess good aesthetic quality, effectively convey cultural and historical values, and demonstrate potential for development as educational media and culture-based creative products. This study demonstrates that the use of shrink paper in three-dimensional artworks provides an effective alternative medium for representing the collective memory of the Aceh tsunami tragedy while supporting cultural preservation through a contemporary art approach.
