Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) is a major plantation commodity in Central Aceh Regency, typically cultivated using an agroforestry system with Leucaena leucocephala (lamtoro) as a shade tree. While Leucaena plays a crucial role in maintaining the microclimate and enhancing soil fertility, it is frequently attacked by the Leucaena psyllid (Heteropsylla cubana), which can compromise the quality and function of the shade trees. The predatory beetle C. coeruleus is a potential natural enemy for controlling this pest. Information regarding the distribution of the predator, predator and pest populations, and the intensity of H. cubana infestation in Central Aceh's Arabica coffee plantations remains limited; thus, research is needed to support biological pest management. This study aims to determine the distribution of C. coeruleus, compare the populations of C. coeruleus and H. cubana, and assess the intensity of H. cubana infestation across three Arabica coffee plantation sites in Central Aceh Regency: Paya Tumpi Village, Tebes Lues Village, and Pantan Sile Village. The study was conducted from March to May 2026 using a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three treatments (study locations) and nine replications. Observations were carried out using hand-collection methods, sweep nets, and methyl eugenol traps. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at a 5% significance level. The study results indicate that C. coeruleus was found at all research sites, suggesting that the predator has dispersed and adapted to the Arabica coffee plantation ecosystems in Central Aceh Regency. C. coeruleus populations, assessed via the hand-collection method, differed significantly across locations; the highest population was found in Pantan Sile Village and the lowest in Paya Tumpi Village. Conversely, the use of methyl eugenol traps failed to capture a single C. coeruleus individual, indicating that this attractant is ineffective for detecting the predator. H. cubana populations tended to be higher in Pantan Sile Village compared to the other two sites, based on both hand-collection and sweep-net methods. The intensity of H. cubana infestation also showed the highest trend at that location. Variations in predator populations, pest populations, and infestation levels are thought to be influenced by habitat characteristics—specifically altitude, microclimate conditions, vegetation structure, and the availability of host plants and prey. The study results demonstrate that C. coeruleus is distributed across all research sites. Predator population densities varied by location, with the highest population found in Pantan Sile Village and the lowest in Paya Tumpi Village. Correlation analysis reveals a significant positive relationship between the presence of C. coeruleus and both the population and infestation intensity of H. cubana. However, under the conditions of this study, C. coeruleus was not yet able to optimally suppress H. cubana populations or infestation levels. Therefore, habitat conservation—through the maintenance of Leucaena (lamtoro) shade trees and vegetation diversity—should be prioritized to support natural enemies as part of a sustainable biological control strategy.
