Kota Medan sebagai ibu kota Provinsi Sumatera Utara memiliki keberagaman budaya dan seni, khususnya seni tari yang menjadi bagian penting dari identitas masyarakat. Seiring meningkatnya aktivitas seni tari dan kunjungan wisatawan ke Sumatera Utara, Kota Medan belum memiliki fasilitas yang secara khusus mewadahi kegiatan pertunjukan, pelestarian, edukasi, dan pengembangan seni tari dalam satu kawasan terpadu. Kondisi tersebut menjadi dasar perancangan Cultural Performance Center di Medan sebagai pusat kegiatan seni dan budaya yang mampu mendukung pelaku seni sekaligus meningkatkan daya tarik wisata budaya.
Konsep perancangan menerapkan pendekatan Arsitektur Regionalisme dengan konsep reinterpreting, yaitu mentransformasikan nilai-nilai arsitektur tradisional ke dalam bentuk arsitektur modern tanpa menghilangkan identitas budaya lokal. Konsep ini diwujudkan melalui reinterpretasi bentuk Rumah Bolon sebagai inspirasi gubahan massa bangunan, penerapan motif ulos pada elemen fasad, serta penggunaan material dan teknologi konstruksi modern yang tetap mencerminkan karakter budaya Sumatera Utara. Hasil perancangan menghasilkan sebuah Cultural Performance Center yang mengintegrasikan auditorium pertunjukan tari, museum tari, ruang latihan, amphiteater, ruang edukasi, serta fasilitas pendukung lainnya dalam satu kawasan terpadu sebagai wadah pelestarian, pengembangan, dan apresiasi seni tari. Perancangan ini diharapkan mampu memperkuat identitas budaya Kota Medan serta mendukung pengembangan pariwisata budaya dan ekonomi kreatif di Sumatera Utara.

Medan, as the capital of North Sumatra Province, holds a rich cultural and artistic diversity, particularly in the art of dance, which serves as an important part of the community's identity. Along with the growing activity in dance-related arts and the rising number of tourist visits to North Sumatra, Medan has yet to provide a facility specifically designed to accommodate performance, preservation, education, and development activities for dance art within a single integrated area. This condition serves as the foundation for the design of the Cultural Performance Center in Medan, intended as a center for artistic and cultural activities that supports artists while also enhancing the appeal of cultural tourism. The design adopts a Regionalism Architecture approach with a reinterpreting concept, which transforms the values of traditional architecture into modern architectural forms without losing local cultural identity. This concept is applied through the reinterpretation of the Bolon House form as inspiration for the building's massing, the incorporation of ulos motifs into facade elements, and the use of modern materials and construction technology that continue to reflect the cultural character of North Sumatra. The resulting design integrates a dance performance auditorium, a dance museum, rehearsal spaces, an amphitheater, educational spaces, and other supporting facilities within a single, unified area, forming a venue for the preservation, development, and appreciation of dance art. This design is expected to strengthen Medan's cultural identity and support the growth of cultural tourism and the creative economy in North Sumatra.
