Seagrass meadows are coastal ecosystems that play a vital ecological role. However, these ecosystems are currently undergoing degradation due to environmental pressures and anthropogenic activities. This study aims to analyze potential sites for seagrass restoration in the waters of Ujung Pancu using an ecological connectivity approach that integrates the Preliminary Transplant Suitability Index (PTSI) and the Transplant Suitability Index (TSI). The research findings are expected to provide scientific data on the biophysical conditions of the waters and serve as a basis for planning the sustainable management and restoration of seagrass ecosystems. The study was conducted from August to December 2025 using the bamboo peg method across nine observation plots (P1–P9), with monitoring performed every 14 days over a two-month period. The study comprised three stages: Stage I (identification of potential habitats and PTSI calculation), Stage II (field trials and seagrass transplantation), and Stage III (TSI calculation). Analyzed parameters included substrate type, water depth, water quality, light intensity, bioturbation activity, and the survival rate of transplanted seagrass. Stage I results indicated that the PTSI value fell within the "limited to moderate" category of initial suitability for transplantation, characterized by a muddy-sand substrate, a water depth of 0.5 m, and 39.4% seagrass cover. In Stage II, light intensity was recorded at ≥20% and bioturbation activity was classified as moderate; 22 bioturbator organisms were identified, including the moon crab (Ashtoret lunaris), hermit crabs (Paguroidea sp.), and the sea slug Jorunna parva. The survival rate of transplanted seagrass reached 30.43%, falling into the moderate category. In Stage III, a TSI value of 2 indicated that the study site is not currently recommended as a priority location for restoration. Based on these results, it is concluded that the waters of Ujung Pancu are still capable of supporting a seagrass ecosystem. However, restoration success remains limited by bioturbation activity, high levels of Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and the low survival rate of transplanted seagrass.
