Ana Al-Maqfirah (2026). Sintesis Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs) Berbahan Dasar Limbah Ampas Tahu ( Okara ) Dengan Menggunakan Metode Hidrotermal

Ana Al-Maqfirah (2026). Synthesis of Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs) Derived from Tofu Dregs (Okara) Waste Using the Hydrothermal Method. Tofu dregs (okara) waste is a biomass waste with the potential to serve as a carbon source for the synthesis of Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs). This study aims to analyze the effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, and L-aspartic acid concentration on the optimal synthesis conditions for Nitrogen-doped Carbon Quantum Dots (N-CQDs) and to characterize the resulting N-CQDs. The synthesis was conducted via the hydrothermal method, utilizing tofu dregs waste as the carbon source and L-aspartic acid as the nitrogen source. Optimization of synthesis conditions was performed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with a Box-Behnken Design (BBD), involving three independent variables: reaction temperature (160–180°C), reaction time (6–8 hours), and L-aspartic acid concentration (0–0.2 M). Material characterization was carried out using UV lamps, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermal analysis. The results demonstrate that N-CQDs were successfully synthesized, exhibiting blue fluorescence under UV light. UV-Vis analysis revealed an absorption peak at a wavelength of approximately 277–280 nm, indicating a π–π* transition associated with aromatic C=C bonds. The PL spectrum showed an emission peak in the 430–460 nm range, with intensity influenced by the synthesis conditions. Statistical analysis using RSM-BBD indicated that reaction temperature and L-aspartic acid concentration were the most significant factors affecting the photoluminescence intensity of the N-CQDs. Optimal synthesis conditions were achieved at a temperature of 169°C, a reaction time of 6.8 hours, and an L-aspartic acid concentration of 0.20 M. Under these conditions, the following values were obtained: a maximum intensity of 676.7 a.u., an emission wavelength of 445 nm, an excitation wavelength of 360 nm, an FWHM of 94.1 nm, a Stokes shift of 85 nm, and a band gap energy of 4.6152 eV. FTIR results confirmed the presence of O–H, C–H, C=O, C–N, and C–O functional groups, indicating successful nitrogen doping within the N-CQD structure. The resulting quadratic model demonstrated good predictive capability, with a coefficient of determination (R²) exceeding 0.95. Based on the study results, it can be concluded that tofu dregs waste has the potential to serve as an eco-friendly raw material for synthesizing N-CQDs with favorable optical characteristics via the hydrothermal method and optimization using RSM-BBD.
