Penelitian ini didasari oleh meningkatnya perhatian masyarakat terhadap perempuan pelaku kriminal yang tidak lagi dipandang semata-mata sebagai pelanggar hukum, tetapi juga sebagai individu yang memiliki latar belakang pengalaman hidup kompleks, seperti korban kekerasan dalam rumah tangga, pelecehan seksual, trauma psikologis, serta tekanan sosial. Film Harmony yang mengangkat isu kekerasan seksual yang dialami oleh para perempuan melalui cerita latar belakang para tokohnya mampu membangun keterhubungan emosional dengan penonton, khususnya perempuan, sehingga memunculkan beragam persepsi terhadap motif tindakan kriminal yang dilakukan oleh para narapidana perempuan dalam film Harmony. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana persepsi mahasiswi terhadap narapidana perempuan dalam film Harmony. Teori yang digunakan adalah Teori Resepsi oleh Stuart Hall, yang menyatakan bahwa pemaknaan pembaca memfokuskan kepada bagaimana pembaca atau khalayak dalam menerima pesan, melalui tiga posisi yaitu dominant-hegemonic position, negotiated position, oppositional position. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara terhadap empat informan mahasiswi yang pernah mengalami kekerasan seksual dari orang terdekat, sesuai dengan pengalaman tokoh pada film Harmony. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman personal informan memengaruhi cara mereka memaknai motif tokoh narapidana perempuan dalam film Harmony. Sebagian besar informan menunjukkan empati terhadap tokoh karena memiliki pengalaman emosional yang serupa dengan tokoh dalam film. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar informan berada pada negotiated position yaitu informan tidak sepenuhnya menerima makna dominan yang menempatkan pelaku kriminal sebagai pihak yang bersalah secara mutlak, tetapi juga tidak sepenuhnya menolak norma tersebut. Hal ini dikarenakan para informan memahami perbuatan atau alasan mereka melakukan tindakan kriminal tersebut tidak semata mata karena kesalahan individu, tetapi juga sebagai sebuah respon terhadap situasi yang mendesak. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa setiap informan memiliki persepsi yang berbeda terhadap motif tindakan para tokoh dalam film Harmony. Persepsi dominan yang muncul adalah persepsi afektif, yaitu perasaan empati, simpati, dan keterlibatan emosional. Muncul juga persepsi kognitif dimana pemahaman akan sebuah tindakan muncul karena adanya alasan tertentu oleh para tokoh, serta persepsi evaluatif sebagai bentuk pemahaman informan sebagai mahasiswi bahwa adanya ketidak adilan dalam sistem hukum dan permasyarakatan.

This research is based on the increasing public attention toward female offenders, who are no longer viewed merely as law violators but also as individuals with complex life experiences, such as victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, psychological trauma, and social pressure. The film Harmony, which highlights the issue of sexual violence experienced by women through the characters’ backgrounds, is able to establish an emotional connection with the audience, particularly women, thereby generating various perceptions regarding the motives behind the criminal acts committed by female inmates in the film. This study aims to explore female university students’ perceptions of female prisoners as portrayed in the film Harmony. The theory used in this research is Stuart Hall’s Reception Theory, which explains how audiences interpret and negotiate meanings from media messages through three positions: dominant-hegemonic position, negotiated position, and oppositional position. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through interviews with four female university student informants who have experienced sexual violence from someone close to them, corresponding to the experiences portrayed by the characters in the film Harmony. The findings reveal that the informants’ personal experiences influence the way they interpret the motives of the female inmate characters in the film Harmony. Most informants expressed empathy toward the characters due to their similar emotional experiences with the characters depicted in the film. The results indicate that the majority of informants are positioned within the negotiated position. The informants do not fully accept the dominant meaning that positions criminal offenders as entirely responsible for their actions, yet they also do not completely reject existing social norms. This occurs because the informants understand that the characters’ criminal acts are not solely the result of individual wrongdoing, but also responses to urgent and difficult circumstances. The conclusion of this study shows that each informant has different perceptions regarding the motives behind the actions of the characters in the film Harmony. The dominant perception that emerges is the affective perception, reflected through feelings of empathy, sympathy, and emotional involvement. Cognitive perceptions also emerge, in which informants understand the characters’ actions based on the existence of certain underlying reasons. Furthermore, evaluative perceptions appear as a form of understanding among the informants regarding the presence of injustice within the legal and correctional systems.
