ABSTRAK
Rumoh Aceh sebagai rumah tradisional memiliki nilai arsitektur yang mencerminkan kearifan lokal, baik dari segi struktur, tata ruang, maupun makna budaya. Seiring perkembangan kota, banyak Rumoh Aceh mengalami perubahan fungsi melalui penerapan adaptive reuse, salah satunya menjadi kafe.

ABSTRACT Rumoh Aceh, the traditional house of Aceh, embodies architectural values that reflect local wisdom in terms of its structural system, spatial organization, and cultural significance. With urban development, many Rumoh Aceh buildings have undergone functional changes through the implementation of adaptive reuse, one of which is their conversion into cafés. This study aims to identify the transformation process, analyze changes in architectural elements, and assess their contribution to the preservation of local architecture in Banda Aceh. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using diachronic–synchronic morphological analysis, shearing layers analysis, and a scoring method. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation of five case study objects. The findings indicate that the transformation process occurs gradually, beginning with changes in function, followed by spatial adjustments and the addition of supporting facilities. The most significant modifications occur in flexible elements such as spatial layout, building services, and furnishings, while the main structural components tend to be preserved. The shearing layers analysis reveals that the structural layer is the most stable, whereas the services and furniture layers experience the highest degree of change. The implementation of adaptive reuse contributes to selective preservation, allowing the buildings to remain in use and physically maintained despite adjustments to certain elements. Therefore, adaptive reuse can serve as an adaptive conservation strategy as long as the essential characteristics of the building are retained.
