Pengendalian gula darah pada pasien diabetes tipe 2 memerlukan pengetahuan self-efficacy dan self management yang baik, namun, ketiga aspek tersebut masih rendah, dan evidence terkait pelaksanaan Diabetes Self Manajemen Education (DSME) untuk meningkatkannya, khususnya di Kabupaten Bireuen, masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas DSME terhadap pengetahuan, self-efficacy dan self-management pada pasien diabetes tipe 2. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial (c-RCT) dengan pre-test and post-test control group. Sampel berjumlah 72 responden yang dibagi kedalam kelompok intervensi dan kelompok kontrol menggunakan teknik Cluster Random sampling. Intervensi DSME diberikan dengan metode pengajaran group base dan tanya jawab menggunakan media PPT, Video dan buku panduan selama 4 sesi intervensi dengan durasi 30-45 menit yang dilakukan selama 4 minggu. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner DKQ-24, DES-SF, dan Perilaku Self-Management Diabetes Mellitus yang dianalisis menggunakan uji independent t-test dan dependent t-test. Blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes requires adequate knowledge, self-efficacy, and self-management; however, these three aspects remain suboptimal, and evidence regarding the implementation of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) to improve them, particularly in Bireuen Regency, is still limited. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of DSME on knowledge, self-efficacy, and self-management among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study employed a Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial (c-RCT) design with a pre-test and post-test control group approach. The sample consisted of 72 respondents who were divided into intervention and control groups using a cluster random sampling technique. Ethical approval was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Syiah Kuala. The DSME intervention was delivered through group-based teaching and question-and-answer methods using PowerPoint presentations, videos, and guidebooks over four intervention sessions lasting 30–45 minutes each, conducted over four weeks. Data were collected using the DKQ-24, DES-SF, and Diabetes Mellitus Self-Management Behavior questionnaires and were analyzed using independent t-test and dependent t-test. The results of the independent t-test analysis after the intervention showed significant differences in knowledge, self-efficacy, and self-management between the intervention and control groups (p < 0.000). The dependent t-test results in the intervention group also demonstrated significant differences in all three variables (p < 0.000). It can be concluded that DSME is effective in improving knowledge, self-efficacy, and self-management among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Therefore, DSME is recommended to be implemented continuously by community nurses as an effort to enhance patients’ ability to independently manage type 2 diabetes mellitus.
