ABSTRAK
Melalui skripsi ini, penulis akan mengkaji tentang makna yang terkandung dalam
gerakan dan syair didong Gayo. Adapun aspek tersebut adalah: (a) gerakan (badan
dan tepukan) (b) syair (salam pembuka atau persalamen, isi, dan salam penutup
atau pepongoten). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan makna yang
terkandung di dalam kesenian didong Gayo. Metode yang digunakan dalam
penelitian ini kualitatif, data berbentuk deskriptif. Teori yang digunakan adalah
teori analisis semiotika Roland Barthes yaitu kajian denotasi dan konotasi.
Pembaca mudah sekali membaca makna konotatif sebagai fakta denotatif. salah
satu tujuan semiotik adalah untuk menyediakan kerangka berfikir untuk mengatasi
salah baca (misreading). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan banyak makna dan
pesan yang tersembunyi dalam kesenian didong Gayo baik itu dalam gerakan
ataupun syair, gerak yang dilakukan oleh pelaku kesenian didong murni untuk
memperindah didong. Tepukan didong tidak monoton, bervariasi mulai dari tepuk
biasa sampai tepukan keras atau runcang, tetapi tetap tidak keluar dari nada dasar
yaitu tepok tulu. Hasil pengkajian syair didong menunjukkan, kata-kata atau syair
yang dinyanyikan ceh disesuaikan dengan tema acara. Teks syair didong berisikan
nasihat, petunjuk, informasi pembangunan, kritik sosial, dan lain sebagainya.
Sentil menyentil (tep dan onem) dalam kesenian didong adalah wajib. tidak
menggunakan bahasa yang kasar dan mengandung makna yang sangat dalam agar
dalam penyampaiannya tidak melukai hati dari lawan tanding (jalu). Masyarakat
sebagai penonton dan penikmat didong Gayo harus paham makna-makna yang
terkandung dalam didong, agar didong tidak menjadi tontonan yang hanya bisa
membuat tawa dan senang sesaat saja, namun masyarakat juga harus ikut berperan
dalam mengontrol dan membantu pemerintah untuk bekerja sama dalam
melestarikan kesenian didong yang merupakan kebanggan Gayo.

ABSTRACT
Through this essay papers, the authors will examine the meaning that
contained in the movement and poetry for Didong Gayo. The aspects are : (a)
movement (body and clapping) (b) poem (greeting or persalamen, content, and
cover regards or pepongoten). This study aimed to describe the meaning that
contained in the art of Didong Gayo. The method used in this research is
qualitative, the data in the form of descriptive. The theory used is the theory of
semiotic analysis from Roland Barthes that is the study of denotation and
connotation. The readers can be very easy to read a connotative meaning as the
fact of denotative, one of the semiotic purpose is to provide frameworks to
address one read (misreading). The results of this study showed many meanings
and the hidden messages in art of Didong Gayo either in motion or poetry, the
movement that performed by actors, Didong is pure art to beautify Didong. The
claps in Didong are not monotonous, ranging from the mundane usual claps to the
hard claps or called runcang, but still not out of the basic tone is as tepok tulu.
The assessment results of Didong poetry show us the words or poems
which sung by the singer in suitable to the theme of the event. Didong text lyric s
contains of advices, guidances, information developments, social criticisms, and
so forth. Flick poked (tep and onem) in the art of Didong is mandatory. Do not use
offensive language and contains a very deep meaning in their speech delivery so
as will not hurt the heart of the opponent (jalu). People in society as the
spectators and connoisseurs of Didong Gayo have to understand the meanings
which contained in Didong, so the art of Didong is not only the show that create
laughter and in a moment happiness, but all people should also having each self to
play a role in controlling and helping the government to work together to preserve
the arts of Didong which is the pride of Gayo.
