Pengaruh screen time terhadap minat sekolah boarding merupakan fenomena yang semakin relevan pada remaja di era digital, khususnya pada siswa yang menempuh pendidikan di pesantren. Screen time merujuk pada durasi penggunaan perangkat digital seperti ponsel pintar dan media elektronik lainnya yang dapat memengaruhi perilaku serta ketertarikan siswa terhadap aktivitas sekolah. Minat sekolah boarding merupakan kecenderungan siswa untuk merasa tertarik, nyaman, dan bersedia mengikuti kegiatan pembelajaran serta kehidupan berasrama di pesantren. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat screen time, tingkat minat sekolah boarding, serta pengaruh screen time terhadap minat sekolah boarding pada siswa kelas I SMP di pesantren Kabupaten Aceh Besar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian asosiatif kausal. Populasi penelitian terdiri dari 616 siswa kelas I SMP di empat pesantren Kabupaten Aceh Besar, dengan sampel sebanyak 250 siswa yang ditentukan menggunakan teknik random sampling berdasarkan rumus Slovin pada tingkat kesalahan 5%. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan skala screen time dan skala minat sekolah boarding, sedangkan analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan regresi linear sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat screen time siswa berada pada kategori tinggi sebesar 52% dan kategori sedang sebesar 29%, sementara minat sekolah boarding siswa berada pada kategori rendah sebesar 37% dan kategori sedang sebesar 35%. Hasil analisis regresi menunjukkan bahwa screen time berpengaruh negatif dan signifikan terhadap minat sekolah boarding dengan nilai koefisien regresi sebesar –0,546 dan nilai signifikansi 0,000. Koefisien determinasi sebesar 22,9% menunjukkan bahwa screen time berkontribusi terhadap minat sekolah boarding, sedangkan 77,1% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain di luar variabel screen time. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingginya screen time dapat menurunkan minat siswa terhadap kehidupan sekolah boarding. Kebiasaan penggunaan perangkat digital yang tinggi berpotensi mengurangi perhatian, kenyamanan, dan kesiapan siswa dalam mengikuti aturan serta aktivitas pesantren.

Abu Bakar, M.Si. and Hetti Zuliani, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D The effect of screen time on interest in boarding school education has become an increasingly relevant phenomenon among adolescents in the digital era, particularly for students enrolled in Islamic boarding schools. Screen time refers to the duration of digital device use, such as smartphones and other electronic media, which may influence students’ behavior and interest in school-related activities. Interest in boarding school education reflects students’ tendency to feel attracted, comfortable, and willing to engage in learning activities and residential life within the boarding school environment. This study aimed to examine the level of screen time, the level of interest in boarding school education, and the effect of screen time on boarding school interest among first-year junior high school students in Islamic boarding schools in Aceh Besar Regency.This study employed a quantitative approach with a causal associative research design. The population consisted of 616 first-year junior high school students from four Islamic boarding schools in Aceh Besar Regency. A sample of 250 students was selected using random sampling based on the Slovin formula with a 5% margin of error. Data were collected using a screen time scale and a boarding school interest scale, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression analysis.The results showed that students’ screen time was predominantly in the high category (52%) and moderate category (29%), while students’ interest in boarding school education was mostly categorized as low (37%) and moderate (35%). Regression analysis indicated that screen time had a negative and significant effect on boarding school interest, with a regression coefficient of –0.546 and a significance value of 0.000. The coefficient of determination showed that screen time contributed 22.9% to students’ interest in boarding school education, while the remaining 77.1% was influenced by other factors beyond screen time. These findings indicate that high levels of screen time may reduce students’ interest in boarding school life, as excessive digital device use can decrease attention, comfort, and readiness to comply with the rules and activities of the boarding school environment.
