Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji tingkat efikasi diri guru bahasa Inggris di sekolah menengah pertama negeri di Banda Aceh, Indonesia, yang merupakan konteks dengan keterbatasan penelitian empiris terkait efikasi guru. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif deskriptif dengan melibatkan 44 guru bahasa Inggris dari 19 SMP negeri. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) bentuk singkat, yang mengukur persepsi efikasi guru dalam tiga domain, yaitu strategi pembelajaran, manajemen kelas, dan keterlibatan siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara umum guru memiliki tingkat efikasi diri yang tinggi, dengan tingkat kepercayaan tertinggi pada aspek manajemen kelas dan keterlibatan siswa. Namun demikian, meskipun persepsi tersebut positif, tingkat kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa masih tergolong rendah. Kesenjangan ini menunjukkan bahwa efikasi diri guru, meskipun merupakan faktor psikologis yang penting, belum tentu cukup untuk secara signifikan meningkatkan capaian akademik siswa. Faktor-faktor lain, seperti kualitas pembelajaran, implementasi kurikulum, serta berbagai tantangan kontekstual, kemungkinan juga berperan dalam memengaruhi hasil belajar.

This study examines the self-efficacy levels of English teachers in public junior high schools in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, a context where empirical research on teacher efficacy remains limited. Employing a descriptive quantitative research design, the study involved 44 English teachers from 19 public junior high schools. Data were collected using the Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) short form, which measures teachers’ perceived efficacy in three domains: instructional strategies, classroom management, and student engagement. The results reveal that, overall, teachers report high levels of self-efficacy, with the strongest confidence observed in classroom management and student engagement. Despite these positive perceptions, students’ English proficiency levels remain relatively low. This discrepancy suggests that while teachers’ self-efficacy is an important psychological factor, it may not be sufficient on its own to significantly enhance students’ academic achievement. Additional factors, such as instructional quality, curriculum implementation, and contextual challenges, may also influence learning outcomes.
