Diabetes Melitus (DM) merupakan penyakit kronis dengan prevalensi yang terus meningkat dan menjadi masalah kesehatan penting di Kabupaten Pidie. Keberhasilan pengelolaan DM sangat bergantung pada komunikasi yang efektif antara dokter dan pasien. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui cara komunikasi dokter dan pasien DM di Kabupaten Pidie berdasarkan persepsi pasien, dokter, dan peneliti dengan mempertimbangkan konteks budaya lokal masyarakat Aceh. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi melalui observasi partisipatif dan wawancara semi-terstruktur terhadap 11 pasien dan 4 dokter di Puskesmas Glumpang Tiga dan Teupin Raya. Berdasarkan persepsi pasien, komunikasi dokter berlangsung dengan sapaan Islami, penggunaan bahasa Aceh, dan suasana konsultasi yang akrab. Berdasarkan persepsi dokter, komunikasi dilakukan dengan menggali keluhan pasien melalui pertanyaan terbuka dan tertutup, memberikan edukasi, serta menyesuaikan bahasa dengan latar belakang budaya pasien. Berdasarkan persepsi peneliti, komunikasi antara dokter dan pasien mengikuti tahapan greet, invite, dan discuss yang melibatkan penggunaan bahasa daerah, nilai kekeluargaan dalam interaksi. Temuan ini menggambarkan bahwa komunikasi dokter dan pasien di Kabupaten Pidie dipengaruhi oleh budaya lokal dan dapat dijelaskan melalui kerangka greet, invite dan discuss.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with an increasing prevalence and remains a major public health problem in Pidie District. The success of DM management largely depends on effective communication between doctors and patients. This study aims to explore the communication process between doctors and patients with diabetes mellitus in Pidie District based on the perceptions of patients, doctors, and researchers, while considering the local cultural context of Acehnese society. This research employed a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach through participatory observation and semi-structured interviews involving 11 patients and 4 doctors at Glumpang Tiga and Teupin Raya Community Health Centers. From the patients’ perspective, doctor–patient communication included Islamic greetings, the use of the Acehnese language, and a familiar consultation atmosphere. From the doctors’ perspective, communication was carried out by exploring patients’ complaints through open and closed questions, providing education, and adapting language to the patients’ cultural background. From the researchers’ perspective, communication between doctors and patients followed the stages of greet, invite, and discuss, which involved the use of local language, family values, and religious aspects in the interaction. These findings indicate that doctor–patient communication in Pidie District is influenced by local culture and can be understood through the greet–invite–discuss framework.
