Penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis komposisi unsur visual dalam lukisan “Herotisme” karya Idrus bin Harun. Latar belakang penelitian ini berangkat dari fenomena sosial pasca konflik di Aceh, di mana seni rupa menjadi sarana refleksi dan kritik terhadap realitas sosial serta dinamika politik yang berkembang setelah masa konflik. Lukisan “Herotisme” dipilih karena tidak hanya menampilkan kekuatan visual yang ekspresif, tetapi juga menjadi bentuk respons seniman terhadap fenomena heroisme semu yang muncul di tengah masyarakat pasca-konflik. Penelitian ini dilandasi oleh keingintahuan terhadap bagaimana seorang seniman memanfaatkan unsur dan prinsip seni rupa untuk mengekspresikan gagasan, emosi, dan kritik sosial melalui bahasa visual. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis komposisi unsur visual yang meliputi garis, bidang, ruang, warna, tekstur, serta prinsip seni rupa seperti kesatuan, keseimbangan, irama, pusat perhatian, proporsi, dan kontras. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi langsung terhadap karya, wawancara dengan seniman, serta dokumentasi visual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa garis merupakan unsur dominan yang membentuk struktur dan dinamika visual dalam lukisan. Bidang figuratif dan dekoratif hadir secara bersamaan sehingga menciptakan komposisi padat namun tetap harmonis. Ruang pada karya bersifat padat dan ilusionistik, memperkuat intensitas visual. Warna monokromatik yang terbatas pada hitam, abu-abu, dan putih kekuningan menegaskan kontras gelap-terang, sementara tekstur visual muncul dari teknik arsiran tinta pulpen di atas kain belacu yang menjadi ciri khas karya. Prinsip seni rupa diterapkan secara konsisten melalui kesatuan teknik dan warna, keseimbangan asimetris, irama dari pengulangan garis, serta pusat perhatian pada figur utama dan tulisan “Herotisme.” Kesimpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa lukisan “Herotisme” tidak hanya menonjolkan kekuatan visual melalui penerapan unsur rupa, tetapi juga mengandung pesan sosial politik yang merefleksikan kritik terhadap fenomena heroisme semu di masyarakat pasca-konflik Aceh. Melalui karya ini, Idrus bin Harun berhasil memadukan nilai estetika dengan refleksi sosial yang mendalam, menjadikan seni rupa sebagai media kesadaran dan kritik terhadap realitas kehidupan masyarakat.

Supervised by Ismawan, S.Sn., M.Sn. and Cut Zuriana, S.Pd., M.Pd. This research focuses on the analysis of the visual composition in the painting “Herotisme” by Idrus bin Harun. The background of this study arises from the phenomenon of post conflict social conditions in Aceh, where art becomes a medium for reflection and criticism of social and political realities. The painting “Herotisme” was chosen because it represents not only expressive visual strength but also the artist’s response to the phenomenon of pseudo-heroism that emerged after the Aceh conflict. The research stems from an interest in how an artist utilizes the elements and principles of art to convey ideas, emotions, and social critiques through visual forms. The purpose of this study is to analyze the composition of visual elements, including line, shape, space, color, and texture, as well as the principles of art such as unity, balance, rhythm, focal point, proportion, and contrast. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through direct observation of the artwork, interviews with the artist, and visual documentation. The findings show that line is the dominant element shaping the structure and visual dynamics of the painting. Figurative and decorative forms coexist to create a dense yet harmonious composition. The space is compact and illusionistic, enhancing the visual intensity. The monochromatic colors limited to black, gray, and yellowish white emphasize the contrast between light and dark, while visual texture emerges from the pen hatching technique on belacu fabric, which characterizes the artist’s style. The principles of art are consistently applied through the unity of technique and color, asymmetrical balance, rhythm from line repetition, and a focal point on the main figure and the text “Herotisme.” The conclusion of this research indicates that the painting “Herotisme” not only demonstrates strong visual composition through the arrangement of artistic elements but also conveys a reflective and critical message on social and political realities in post conflict Aceh. Through this work, Idrus bin Harun successfully combines aesthetic value with deep social reflection, positioning art as a medium of awareness and critique of society’s moral and political dynamics.
