 <note>This study aimed to investigate how Cooperative Learning which type CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and composition) improve learners’ reading and writing ability. The methodology that is used in this study is a quantitative research with an experimental approach. The subject in this study is the second grade learners of SMA N 9 Banda Aceh and the sample is class VIII-3 students which cosist of 20 students. Moreover, the instrument that is used in this study is a test for students. Based on collected data the learners have problems in understanding the expression in the material of Hortatory Exposition. In addition, the learners worry about their word choice and vocabulary in reading and writing. The result of this study which describe on  the pre-test and post-test showed that there is a significant improvement of students’ reading and writing ability. The T-test of both scores is 10.23 for reading and 20.74 for writing and they are higher than T-value 1.729 which is mean that the alternative hyphothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hyphothesis (Ho) is rejected. In other words, CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) improves the learners’ reading and writing ability.</note>
