Fenomena tato mengalami perkembangan yang signifikan di Kota Banda Aceh, ditandai dengan munculnya beberapa studio tato. Perkembangan ini terjadi di tengah masyarakat Banda Aceh yang memegang teguh nilai-nilai syariat Islam, sehingga memandang tato sebagai sesuatu yang tidak pantas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses penerimaan diri individu bertato di Kota Banda Aceh. Peneliti menggambarkan proses penerimaan diri individu bertato dalam konteks konstruksi sosial masyarakat Aceh yang bertolak belakang dengan fenomena tato. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Sebanyak lima informan diwawancarai melalui teknik wawancara semi-terstruktur. Proses penerimaan diri individu bertato dianalisis melalui kerangka teori Disonansi Kognitif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa individu bertato menghadapi disonansi yang muncul akibat stigma sosial, komentar negatif, dan pengalaman pengucilan. Untuk mengurangi disonansi, mereka menggunakan aspek pengurangan disonansi, yaitu terpaan selektif, perhatian selektif, interpretasi selektif, dan retensi selektif. Penerimaan diri individu bertato merupakan proses bertahap yang melibatkan lima tahapan utama: penghindaran (aversion), rasa ingin tahu (curiosity), toleransi (tolerance), membiarkan (allowing), dan bersahabat (friendship). Tahapan-tahapan ini mencerminkan upaya individu untuk mengelola disonansi, mengubah persepsi diri, serta mencapai keseimbangan emosional. Penerimaan diri yang dicapai membantu mereka berdamai dengan diri sendiri, meningkatkan kepercayaan diri, dan memberikan motivasi untuk tetap mengejar tujuan hidup, meskipun berada di lingkungan yang kurang mendukung.

The phenomenon of tattoos has developed significantly in the city of Banda Aceh, marked by the emergence of several tattoo studios. This development occurs in the midst of Banda Aceh people who uphold the values of Islamic law, thus viewing tattoos as something inappropriate. This study aims to describe the process of self-acceptance of tattooed individuals in the context of social construction of Acehnese society that contradicts the tattoo phenomenon. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. A total of five informants were interviewed through semi-structured interview techniques. The self-acceptance process of tattooed individuals was analyzed through the framework of Cognitive Dissonance theory. The results show that tattooed individuals face dissonance arising from social stigma, negative comments, and experiences of exclusion. To reduce dissonance, To reduce dissonance, they use aspects of dissonance reduction, namely selective exposure, selective attention, selective interpretation, and selective retention.. Self-acceptance of tattooed individuals is a gradual process involving five main stages: aversion, curiosity, tolerance, allowing, and friendship. These stages reflect the individual's efforts to manage dissonance, change self-perception and achieve emotional balance. The self-acceptance they achieve helps them make peace with themselves, increases their self-confidence, and provides motivation to keep pursuing their life goals, despite being in a less supportive environment.
