This thesis entitles “Teaching  Reading by using Direct Method for Senior High School &#13;
(An Experimental Study to First Year Students of MAN 3 Banda Aceh) .” One class pre-test and post-test experimental design was applied in teaching at   MAN 3 Banda Aceh. &#13;
This study is intended to find out whether  teaching reading by using direct method  can&#13;
improve students’  reading  skill in  the recount  text. The population of the study was the &#13;
first  year of MAN 3 Banda Aceh,  and the sample of this study was the students of  class &#13;
X IA-1 that consist of  28  students.  The instrument for the study is test. The data is the &#13;
score of pre-test and post-test. From these tests, the writer found that   the  mean score of &#13;
pre-test is 49,55 and the mean score of post-test is 73,46 The result shows that the mean &#13;
of post-test is higher than that of pre -test.  The conclusion drawn from this study is &#13;
reading teaching by using direct  method  in teaching recount  text improves the  students’ &#13;
reading ability</note>
