Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kesadaran morfologis dengan kemampuan memahami teks berita dalam bahasa Inggris, khususnya teks yang diambil dari surat kabar The Jakarta Post. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional. Data diperoleh melalui tes kesadaran morfologi dan tes pemahaman bacaan yang diberikan kepada lima puluh mahasiswa semester dua program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris di Universitas Syiah Kuala. Jawaban pemahaman bacaan dinilai menggunakan rubrik FCAT, yang membantu memastikan evaluasi pemahaman siswa yang terstandarisasi. Hasil tes kemudian dianalisis menggunakan aplikasi statistik SPSS versi 27. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, ditemukan bahwa terdapat korelasi positif sebesar 0,607 antara kesadaran morfologi dan pemahaman membaca surat kabar The Jakarta Post, yang mana koefisien korelasinya menunjukkan tingkat hubungan yang sedang. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa semakin tinggi kesadaran morfologis seseorang, semakin baik pula kemampuannya dalam memahami teks berita berbahasa Inggris.

ABSTRACT Masdalani. (2025). The Correlation Between Morphological Awareness and Comprehending News Text in The Jakarta Post Newspaper. [Undergraduate Thesis. Universitas Syiah Kuala]. Under the supervision Prof. Dr. Zulfadli, S.Pd., M.A., and Dr. Dohar Fitrisia, S.Pd., M.Ed. This study aimed to find out the relationship between morphological awareness and the ability to understand news texts in English, especially texts taken from The Jakarta Post newspaper. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. Data were obtained through morphological awareness test and reading comprehension test given to fifty second semester students of English education study program at Syiah Kuala University. The reading comprehension responses were assessed using the FCAT rubric, which helped ensure standardized evaluation of students‘ understanding. The test results were then analyzed using the statistical application SPSS version 27. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that there was a positive correlation of 0.607 between morphological awareness and reading comprehension in The Jakarta Post newspaper, which the correlation coefficient showed a moderate level of relationship. This finding indicates that the higher one's morphological awareness, the better the ability to comprehend English news texts.
