Pembentukan karakter demokratis siswa merupakan salah satu tujuan pendidikan nasional yang diatur dalam Pasal 3 Undang-undang Nomor 20 Tahun 2003 tentang Sistem Pendidikan Nasional. Budaya sekolah memiliki peran penting dalam mendukung terciptanya karakter demokratis tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menganalisis bentuk-bentuk budaya sekolah yang berkontribusi dalam pembentukan karakter demokratis siswa di SMPN Banda Aceh, (2) mengkaji peran warga sekolah dalam implementasi budaya sekolah di SMPN Banda Aceh yang mendukung karakter demokratis siswa. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan jenis deskriptif. Informan penelitian berjumlah sembilan orang, terdiri atas tiga orang dari masing-masing sekolah, yakni kepala sekolah atau wakil, guru, dan siswa kelas IX dari SMPN 8, SMPN 16, dan SMPN 17 Banda Aceh. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, serta analisis data melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) bentuk budaya sekolah dan kontribusinya dalam pembentukan karakter demokratis siswa di SMP Negeri Banda Aceh, seperti kegiatan gotong royong, kegiatan keagamaan (baca Yasin, tahfiz, pengajian), literasi, pembiasaan salam, senyum, sapa (3S), upacara bendera, projek penguatan profil pelajar pancasila (P5), serta pelibatan siswa dalam forum atau organisasi OSIS, Pramuka berkontribusi dalam membentuk karakter demokratis siswa. Melalui budaya sekolah tersebut, siswa didorong untuk belajar bekerja sama, menghargai pendapat, berpartisipasi aktif dalam kegiatan sekolah, serta mengembangkan sikap saling menghormati dan bertanggung jawab. (2) Peran warga sekolah dalam implementasi budaya sekolah mencakup kepala sekolah sebagai pengarah kebijakan, guru sebagai penggerak, pembimbing, dan teladan, serta siswa sebagai subjek aktif yang menginternalisasi nilai demokratis melalui pembiasaan dan keterlibatan langsung. Di SMPN 8, implementasi menghadapi kendala berupa keterbatasan sarana dan pembina, serta literasi yang belum merata. SMPN 16 menunjukkan pelaksanaan optimal dengan dukungan guru dan fasilitas memadai. Sementara di SMPN 17, meski fasilitas terbatas, guru yang kompeten mendukung keberlangsungan budaya sekolah. Simpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) budaya sekolah yang konsisten membentuk karakter demokratis siswa melalui pembiasaan, (2) peran seluruh warga sekolah memperkuat pembentukan karakter demokratis sebagai pelaku aktif dalam budaya sekolah di SMP Negeri Banda Aceh. Saran dalam penelitian ini agar peningkatan kualitas budaya sekolah secara berkelanjutan dan keterlibatan aktif seluruh warga sekolah selanjutnya melibatkan komunitas dan keluarga.

Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Rusli Yusuf, M.Pd and Ridayani, S.H., M.H. The formation of students' democratic character is one of the goals of national education as stipulated in Article 3 of Law No. 20/2003 on the National Education System. School culture has an important role in supporting the creation of these democratic characters. This study aims to (1) analyze the forms of school culture that contribute to the formation of students' democratic character in Banda Aceh State Junior High School, (2) examine the role of school members in the implementation of school culture in Banda Aceh State Junior High School that supports students' democratic character. The research approach used is qualitative with descriptive type. The research informants totaled nine people, consisting of three people from each school, namely the principal or deputy, teachers, and ninth grade students from SMPN 8, SMPN 16, and SMPN 17 Banda Aceh. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews, and data analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that (1) the form of school culture and its contribution to the formation of students' democratic character in Banda Aceh State Junior High School, such as mutual cooperation activities, religious activities (reading Yasin, tahfiz, recitation), literacy, habituation of greetings, smiles, greetings (3S), flag ceremonies, projects to strengthen the profile of Pancasila students (P5), and student involvement in student council forums or organizations, Scouts contribute to shaping students' democratic character. Through this school culture, students are encouraged to learn to work together, respect opinions, actively participate in school activities, and develop mutual respect and responsibility. (2) The role of school members in the implementation of school culture includes the principal as a policy director, teachers as activators, mentors, and role models, and students as active subjects who internalize democratic values through habituation and direct involvement. At SMPN 8, the implementation faced obstacles in the form of limited facilities and coaches, as well as uneven literacy. SMPN 16 showed optimal implementation with adequate teacher support and facilities. While at SMPN 17, despite limited facilities, competent teachers support the sustainability of the school culture. The conclusion of this study shows that (1) a consistent school culture shapes students' democratic character through habituation, (2) the role of all school members strengthens the formation of democratic character as active actors in the school culture at SMP Negeri Banda Aceh. Suggestions in this study are to improve the quality of school culture in a sustainable manner and the active involvement of all school community members and then involve the community and family.
