Perkembangan teknologi yang pesat di era modern telah memberikan kemudahan dalam berbagai aktivitas, namun juga berdampak pada menurunnya aktivitas fisik masyarakat. Olahraga menjadi solusi penting untuk menjaga kebugaran tubuh serta menumbuhkan nilai sportivitas. Di Aceh, khususnya Banda Aceh, antusiasme terhadap olahraga air seperti renang semakin meningkat, terlihat dari ramainya pengunjung di sejumlah fasilitas renang dan tingginya animo terhadap ajang PON XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024. Sayangnya, lonjakan minat ini tidak diimbangi dengan ketersediaan sarana olahraga air yang memadai, di mana hanya terdapat dua fasilitas utama dan salah satunya tidak aktif untuk umum. Rendahnya perolehan medali pada PON sebelumnya menunjukkan perlunya peningkatan sarana pelatihan yang representatif. Untuk menjawab kebutuhan ini, perencanaan Aceh Aquatic Centre diusulkan sebagai fasilitas olahraga air yang memenuhi standar dan menerapkan prinsip Sustainable Design. Pendekatan ini bertujuan meminimalkan dampak lingkungan melalui efisiensi energi, pengelolaan air, dan pengurangan emisi karbon, sekaligus memperkuat posisi Banda Aceh sebagai kota pelopor pembangunan berkelanjutan di sektor olahraga. Diharapkan, Aceh Aquatic Centre tidak hanya menjadi wadah peningkatan prestasi atlet, namun juga simbol integrasi antara arsitektur, lingkungan, dan masyarakat.

The rapid advancement of technology in the modern era has facilitated various human activities, yet it often leads to reduced physical activity, affecting overall health and fitness. Sports play a vital role in maintaining physical well-being and promoting sportsmanship through competitive events at local, national, and international levels. In Aceh, particularly in Banda Aceh, public enthusiasm for water sports such as swimming continues to rise, as seen from the high number of visitors to swimming facilities and the significant audience interest during the PON XXI Aceh–North Sumatra 2024. However, this growing interest is not matched by the availability and quality of proper aquatic facilities, with only two main venues available—one of which is currently inactive. The lackluster performance of Acehnese athletes in past PON events highlights the urgent need for standardized training infrastructure. In response, the Aceh Aquatic Centre is proposed as a modern aquatic facility designed to meet competitive standards while adopting the principles of Sustainable Design. This approach aims to minimize environmental impact through energy efficiency, water conservation, and carbon emission reduction, while integrating harmoniously with the surrounding environment. The project aspires to establish Banda Aceh not only as a center for aquatic sports development but also as a model for sustainable infrastructure in Indonesia. The Aceh Aquatic Centre is expected to nurture local talent, elevate Aceh’s athletic achievements, and promote community engagement in sports within a sustainable framework.
