Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses kreatif Azhari Aiyub dalam
menciptakan novel. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Data
dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas data primer berupa jawaban narasumber melalui
wawancara langsung, dan data sekunder berupa dokumentasi yang relevan terkait
proses kreatif penulisan. Sumber data utama penelitian ini adalah Azhari Aiyub,
seorang sastrawan nasional yang telah menciptakan banyak karya dan
memperoleh berbagai penghargaan. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui
wawancara terbuka dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses
kreatif Azhari Aiyub terdiri dari lima tahap sesuai dengan teori proses kreatif
Sumardjo yaitu tahap inspirasi, inkubasi, persiapan, penulisan, dan revisi. Tahap
inspirasi Azhari Aiyub lahir dari pengalaman hidup, lingkungan, pendidikan, serta
eksplorasi literatur dunia yang membentuk ide kreatif melalui proses aktif seperti
berpikir, membaca, mencatat, mengajukan pertanyaan kritis, dan refleksi nilai
nilai ideologis. Tahap inkubasi bagi Azhari mengalami pergeseran dari penundaan
di masa muda menjadi ruang penyegaran pikiran dan penanganan hambatan
kreatif di usia matang. Tahap persiapan dimulai dari cerita yang belum jelas arah,
lalu berkembang melalui riset awal, penyempitan fokus historis, dan penyusunan
blueprint yang dilakukan bertahap dengan menggabungkan riset dan intuisi secara
dinamis untuk membentuk struktur cerita baik. Tahap penulisan bagi Azhari
dilakukan secara fleksibel berdasarkan momentum dan kesiapan mental, dengan
memperhatikan keseimbangan antara elemen cerita seperti karakter, plot, dialog,
dan deskripsi, sambil menyesuaikan dengan kendala eksternal seperti waktu dan
kebiasaan pribadi. Tahap revisi dilakukan melalui proses mandiri dan bersama
editor atau pembaca tepercaya, sebagai evaluasi kreatif mendalam yang tidak
hanya memperbaiki kesalahan tetapi juga menambahkan atau mengurangi elemen
cerita, menunjukkan bahwa karya sastra selalu terbuka untuk penyempurnaan.

This study aims to describe the creative process of Azhari Aiyub in crafting his novel. It employs a descriptive qualitative method. The data in this research consist of primary data in the form of responses from the subject through direct interviews, and secondary data in the form of relevant documentation related to the creative writing process. The main data source of this study is Azhari Aiyub, a national literary figure who has produced numerous works and received various awards. Data collection techniques include open interviews and documentation. The findings indicate that Azhari Aiyub’s creative process comprises five stages according to Sumardjo’s theory of the creative process: inspiration, incubation, preparation, writing, and revision. The inspiration stage stems from life experiences, environment, education, and the exploration of world literature, which collectively shape creative ideas through active processes such as critical thinking, reading, note-taking, questioning, and ideological reflection. The incubation stage evolves from procrastination in his youth to a productive pause that refreshes the mind and helps overcome creative blocks in his maturity. The preparation stage begins with an unfocused narrative that gradually develops through preliminary research, historical narrowing of focus, and the step-by-step construction of a blueprint that integrates research and intuition dynamically to form a coherent story structure. The writing stage is carried out flexibly based on momentum and mental readiness, with attention to balance among story elements such as character, plot, dialogue, and description, while also adapting to external constraints like time and personal habits. The revision stage involves both independent and collaborative efforts with editors or trusted readers, serving as a deep creative evaluation that not only corrects errors but also adds or removes story elements, reflecting the notion that literary works remain open to continuous refinement.
