Transportasi umum, khususnya angkutan darat, memegang peran penting dalam mendukung mobilitas masyarakat dan perekonomian di Indonesia. Salah satu rute transportasi darat yang vital adalah rute Banda Aceh-Medan, yang menghubungkan dua kota besar di Pulau Sumatera. Moda transportasi utama yang melayani rute ini adalah Bus dan Minibus Hiace. Kedua moda ini memiliki karakteristik dan preferensi pengguna yang berbeda, dengan bus menawarkan kapasitas besar, perjalanan lebih cepat, dan harga yang terjangkau, sementara Minibus Hiace menawarkan perjalanan yang nyaman namun dengan biaya lebih tinggi. Akibat keadaan tersebut maka perlu dilakukan analisis pada penelitian ini untuk mengetahui ketertarikan penumpang dalam pemilihan moda transportasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik pengguna moda, faktor yang mempengaruhi pemilihan moda dan seberapa besar probabilitas pemilihan moda transportasi antara Bus dan Minibus Hiace rute Banda Aceh-Medan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan wawancara langsung dan juga penyebaran kuesioner dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 100 responden, variabel dalam penelitian ini yaitu biaya perjalanan dan waktu perjalanan. Dalam menganalisis pemilihan moda ini digunakan metode logit biner selisih dan logit biner nisbah. Metode ini digunakan untuk menghasilkan probabilitas pemilihan moda antara Bus dan Minibus Hiace. Berdasarkan analisis tersebut nantinya akan didapatkan karakteristik pengguna moda, faktor yang mempengaruhi pemilihan moda dan seberapa besar probabilitas pemilihan moda. Hasil dari kuesioner dari pemilihan moda transportasi antara Bus dan Minibus Hiace menunjukkan perbedaan yang tidak besar, yaitu 59% memilih bus dan 41% memilih minibus hiace. Berdasarkan hasil analisis probabilitas, jika tarif kedua moda sama, maka pemilihan bus menjadi 54% dan minibus hiace 46%. Apabila tarif bus dinaikkan maka probabilitasnya akan turut naik. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa walaupun mayoritas responden lebih memilih bus untuk perjalanan, namun faktor tarif memiliki pengaruh yang besar terhadap keputusan pemilihan moda transportasi.

Public transportation, particularly land transportation, plays a crucial role in supporting mobility and economy of Indonesia. One of the vital land transportation routes is the Banda Aceh-Medan route, which connects two major cities in Sumatra. The main modes of transportation serving this route are Buses and Hiace Minibuses. These two modes have different characteristics and user preferences, with buses offering large capacity, faster travel, and affordable prices, while Hiace Minibuses provide a more comfortable journey but with higher cost. Due to these conditions, this study aims to analyze passengers' preferences in choosing transportation modes. The research was conducted through direct interviews and questionnaire distribution to respondents. The study aims to identify the characteristics of transportation mode users, the factors influencing mode selection, and probability of choosing between Buses and Hiace Minibuses on the Banda Aceh-Medan route. A total of 100 respondents participated in the study. The variables examined in this research include travel costs and travel time. To analyze mode choice, the binary logit difference method and the binary logit ratio method were used. These methods help determine the probability of selecting between Buses and Hiace Minibuses. Based on this analysis, the study will reveal user characteristics, key influencing factors, and the probability of transportation mode selection. The results of the questionnaire indicate the preference for transportation modes is not significantly different, with 59% of respondents opting for Buses and 41% for Hiace Minibuses. According to probability analysis, if the fares of both modes were equal, the probability of choosing a bus would be 54%, while a Hiace Minibus would be 46%. Its probability will rise in tandem with the bus fare. These results show that although buses are the preferred mode of transport for most respondents, fare levels have a major impact on the choice of mode.
