Meningkatnya jumlah sekolah dwibahasa telah mendorong perekrutan guru ESL untuk mengajar mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Sangat penting bagi para guru untuk memiliki kemahiran dalam bidang yang mereka ajarkan, dengan latar belakang pendidikan yang sesuai, agar dapat menerapkan strategi pembelajaran yang efektif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah strategi scaffolding yang diberikan oleh guru ESL dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris kepada siswa sekolah dasar EFL di Bunga Matahari Intercultural School berdasarkan kerangka strategi instructional scaffolding dari Walqui, serta mengeksplorasi kesulitan yang dihadapi oleh para guru dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, dua guru ESL yang tidak memiliki latar belakang pendidikan bahasa Inggris dilibatkan. Melalui observasi kelas dan wawancara, ditemukan bahwa guru ESL menerapkan berbagai jenis scaffolding termasuk Modelling, Bridging, Contextualizing, Scheme Building, Developing Metacognition, dan Re-presenting Text. Selain itu, kesulitan yang dihadapi meliputi rendahnya kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa, kurangnya motivasi belajar siswa, dan kurangnya penjelasan tata bahasa dalam buku teks. Sebagai rekomendasi, penelitian selanjutnya sebaiknya melibatkan lebih banyak partisipan guru ESL untuk memperoleh ragam data yang lebih luas dalam penerapan strategi scaffolding.

The growing presence of bilingual schools has led to the recruitment of ESL teachers to teach English language subjects. It is essential that teachers possess proficiency in their subject area, with an educational background aligned to the subject they teach, to implement effective learning strategies. This research aims to scrutinize the scaffolding strategy provided by ESL teachers in teaching English for EFL primary students of Bunga Matahari Intercultural School based on instructional scaffolding strategies framework of Walqui as well as exploring the difficulties faced by the teachers in English teaching. Employing a descriptive qualitative study, two ESL teachers without an English education background were involved. Through classroom observation and interview, it is found that the ESL teachers applied various types of scaffolding including Modelling, Bridging, Contextualizing, Scheme Building, Developing Metacognition, and Re-presenting Text. Furthermore, the difficulties encountered include students low English proficiency, lack of student motivation, and inadequacy of grammar explanations in the textbooks. For further recommendation, it should involve more ESL teacher participants to gather a greater variety of data in implementing the scaffolding strategy.
