 <note>This  writing is intended  to describe about  the  role of motivation of the second year students of SMAN 2 Kejuruan  Muda, Aceh Tamiang in mastering  English reading comprehension  which focuses  mainly on the internal and external  motivation and sex differences.  The data were obtained from 44 students consisting of  I males  and 25 females The instruments used  for data collection were a set of closed questionnaires of Likert  Scale, and a set  of reading  comprehension Test. The learners  were categorized into  the  motivation  they  have  as well  as sex differences.  In analyzing the data, the simple statistical procedure such  as,  mean to measure the average  score of students achievement, and t test to compare the significant differences of two mean were applied  in  this  study.  The  findings  show that there  is  no  significant   difference   from   the internally   and   externally  motivated  students  in  mastering  treading comprehension However,  girls  show  that  they have  higher scores than   boys in  mastering  reading comprehension&#13;
