<note>Starting from the problem faced by the sixth semester students of English Department at Almuslim University in speaking skill, the researcher was motivated to do a classroom action research on it. Based on the result of the researcher's preliminary study that the causes of the students' problem to speak English are: (I) the lack of vocabulary, (2) the monotonous technique given by the teacher, () the psychological burden of the students such as feeling afraid of being punished, being laughed at, or being identified as stupid students (4) the lack of group activities in the classroom, and (5) the lack of the students motivation in practicing. Supported by some theories, experiences, and previous studies in speaking skill, the researcher decides to use sharing time technique to solve the students' problem on speaking. For the purpose, the researcher formulated the research problems, they are: (I) How is the implementation of sharing time in speaking class? (2) What is the students' achievement in speaking class? () How do the students respond to the implementation of sharing time in speaking class? The objective of the research was to develop a technique of sharing time to upgrade the teacher in teaching English and improve to the students' ability in speaking English
The study belongs to a collaborative action research design in which the researcher and the collaborator teacher work together in designing the lesson plan, implementing the action and making reflection. The subjects of the research are all the sixth semester students in Unit A at English Department of Almuslim University. The study was conducted in two cycles by following the procedure of the action research, i.e. planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. To collect the data, the researcher used some instruments such as observation checklist, field note, and questionnaire. The obtained data are presented and analyzed in two ways, qualitative and quantitative data procedures. Qualitative data were presented in words, explaining the process of implementing the technique, while quantitative data were analyzed using analytic scoring rubric for speaking assessment.
