Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan ekspresi emosi tokoh dalam hikayat Harap Binasa karya Teungku Abdullah berdasarkan teori emosi David Krech dan Richard S.Crutchfield. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif berjenis deskripstif. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini menggunakan teknik dokumentasi. Sumber data yang digunakan hikayat Harap Binasa. Data penelitian ini berupa kata, frasa dan klausa dalam penggalan bait-bait hikayat Harap Binasa. Hasil penelitian ditemukan 244 ekspresi emosi dari 195 data yang terdiri atas 4 emosi utama, yaitu emosi dasar, stimulasi sensor, penilaian diri, dan emosi yang berhubungan dengan orang lain. Emosi dasar terdapat 132 emosi (24 emosi senang, 15 emosi marah, 11 emosi takut, dan 82 emosi sedih), stimulasi sensor terdapat 18 emosi (17 emosi sakit dan 1 emosi kenikmatan), penilaian diri terdapat 15 emosi (4 emosi malu dan 11 emosi bersalah dan menyesal) dan emosi yang berhubungan dengan orang lain terdapat 79 emosi (79 emosi cinta). Emosi senang berupa kesenangan Zalikhah terbebas dari hukuman raja. Emosi marah berupa kemarahan raja pada Zalikhah yang berani menempati tempat tidur raja. Emosi takut berupa ketakutan Siti Badariah pada ajakan perzinaan Menteri Jam hingga membuatnya terpaksa berlari ke hutan belantara. Emosi sedih berupa kesedihan raja saat menerima kabar bahwa putrinya melakukan hubungan terlarang. Emosi sakit berupa kesakitan Zalikhah saat mendapatkan pukulan dari raja. Emosi kenikmatan berupa kenikmatan Zalikhah saat menempati tempat tidur raja. Emosi malu berupa ekspresi malu sang raja saat menerima kiriman surat dari pasukan Menteri Jam bahwa putrinya telah melakukan hubungan terlarang. Emosi bersalah dan menyesal berupa ekspresi bersalah dan menyesal raja saat dinasihati Zalikhah atas kesalahan yang pernah ia lakukan. Emosi cinta berupa percintaan Malek pada Siti Badariah pada pandangan pertama.

This study aims to describe the expression of emotions of the characters in the hikayat Harap Binasa by Teungku Abdullah based on David Krech and Richard S. Crutchfield's theory of emotions. The approach used is qualitative descriptive type. This research data collection technique uses documentation techniques. The data source used is the Harap Binasa saga. The data of this research are in the form of words, phrases, and clauses in the fragments of the stanzas of the hikayat Harap Binasa. The results of the research found 244 emotional expressions from 195 data consisting of 4 main emotions, namely basic emotions, sensor stimulation, self-assessment, and emotions related to others. There are 132 basic emotions (24 emotions of pleasure, 15 emotions of anger, 11 emotions of fear, and 82 emotions of sadness), 18 emotions of sensory stimulation (17 emotions of pain and 1 emotion of pleasure), 15 emotions of self-assessment (4 emotions of shame and 11 emotions of guilt and regret) and 79 emotions of emotions related to others (79 emotions of love). The emotion of joy is Zalikhah's pleasure in being free from the king's punishment. Anger in the form of the king's anger at Zalikhah for daring to occupy the king's bed. Emotion of fear in the form of Siti Badariah's fear of Minister Jam's adulterous invitation that forced her to run into the wilderness. The emotion of sadness in the form of the king's sadness when he received the news that his daughter had an illicit relationship. Emotion of pain in the form of Zalikhah's pain when she received a beating from the king. Emotion of pleasure in the form of Zalikhah's pleasure when occupying the king's bed. Emotion of shame in the form of the king's expression of shame when he received a letter from Minister Jam's troops that his daughter had had an illicit relationship. The emotion of guilt and regret in the form of the king's expression of guilt and regret when he was advised by Zalikhah for the mistakes he had made.
