Karies gigi merupakan kerusakan pada gigi yang terjadi akibat demineralisasi email dan dentin, yang disebabkan oleh konsumsi makanan kariogenik. Bakteri penyebabnya adalah Streptococcus mutans. Kesehatan gigi dan mulut dipengaruhi oleh perilaku, pengetahuan, dan faktor lingkungan. Perilaku ibu sangat penting dalam membentuk kebiasaan anak merawat kesehatan gigi dan mulut, karena ibu adalah figur pertama yang dikenali anak dan menjadi contoh bagi mereka. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui hubungan perilaku ibu dalam merawat kesehatan gigi dan mulut dengan status karies gigi anak pada usia 11-12 tahun di SDN 1 Mata Ie Aceh Besar. Desain penelitian adalah analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional, subjek diambil dengan menggunakan teknik total yang berjumlah 38 orang. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan kuisioner dan pemeriksaan klinis. Status karies gigi diperika dengan menggunakan indeks DMF-T. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji chi-square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan perilaku ibu dalam merawat kesehatan gigi dan mulut dengan status karies gigi pada anak usia 11-12 tahun dengan nilai P=0,049 (P=0,05).

Dental caries is damage to teeth that occurs due to demineralization of enamel and dentin, caused by consumption of cariogenic foods. The bacteria that cause it are Streptococcus mutans. Dental and oral health are influenced by behavior, knowledge, and environmental factors. Maternal behavior is very important in forming children's habits of caring for dental and oral health, because mothers are the first figures recognized by children and are role models for them. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between maternal behavior in caring for dental and oral health with the status of dental caries in children aged 11-12 years at SDN 1 Mata Ie Aceh Besar. The research design was analytical with a cross-sectional approach, subjects were taken using a total technique of 38 people. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and clinical examinations. Dental caries status was examined using the DMF-T index. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between maternal behavior in caring for dental and oral health with the status of dental caries in children aged 11-12 years with a value of P = 0.049 (P = 0.05).
