ABSTRAK Nama : Nadyatul Asifa Fakultas : Kedokteran Gigi Program Studi : Kedokteran Gigi Judul : Potensi Daya Hambat Ekstrak whole cell Streptococcus mutans ATCC 31987 Terhadap Pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans Streptococcus mutans secara umum diketahui sebagai penyebab karies gigi, Streptococcus mutans bersifat asidogenik, asidurik dan dapat membentuk plak gigi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi daya hambat ekstrak whole cell S. mutans terhadap pertumbuhan S. mutans. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental laboratoris secara in vitro dengan desain post test only control group. Penelitian dilakukan pada 1 kelompok kontrol dan 3 kelompok perlakuan dengan 3 pengulangan. Kelompok kontrol diberikan PBS (Phospat Buffer Saline) sedangkan kelompok perlakuan diberikan ekstrak whole cell S. mutans dengan konsentrasi masing-masing 25%, 50% dan 100%. Hasil analisis ANOVA (p < 0,05) menunjukan ekstrak whole cell S . mutans berbagai konsentrasi memiliki kemampuan yang bermakna (p = 0,001) dalam menghambat pertumbuhan S. mutans, namun ekstrak whole cell S. mutans konsentrasi 100% memiliki daya hambat maksimum, dari hasil uji lanjutan LSD (p > 0,05) memperlihatkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pada tiap konsentrasi. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ekstrak whole cell S. mutans berpotensi sebagai inhibitor S. mutans, yaitu pada konsentrasi 25% dengan daya hambat minumum. Streptococcus mutans is widely known as a major caries agent and could acidogenically and acidurially, also formed dental plaque. Aim of research is to knowing the potential of S. mutans whole cell extract in inhibited S. mutans growth. This research experimental laboratory study with post test only control group design. Its was done 3 times on 1 control group and 3 exam groups. The experimental groups given either by PBS (Phospat Buffer Saline) and using S. mutans whole cell extract at 25, 50, and 100 percent respectively concentration. Analytical result using ANOVA (p < 0,05) showed that S. mutans whole cell extract has significant (p = 0,001) effect in inhibiting S. mutans growth, but 100% concentration of S. mutans whole cell extract has maximum inhibitory effect, from LSD test (p < 0,05), its not showed that each concentration has significant differences. It can be concluded that S. mutans whole cell extract has an inhibitory effect against S. mutans with the minimum inhibitory concentracion is 25%.
