Tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai pelindung buku, cover juga berperan sebagai ‘wajah’ dari sebuah buku yang dapat membangun kesan (secara visual) untuk memikat pembaca. Laut Bercerita versi hard cover merupakan buku novel bergenre fiksi sejarah dengan predikat best seller yang ditulis oleh Leila. S. Chudori dan berhasil meraih penghargaan S.E.A WRITE Award pada tahun 2020. Adapun cover buku yang sukses adalah ketika seluruh elemen pada cover dapat menyatu dan terjalin keharmonisan, yang akhirnya dapat membungkus karya di dalamnya. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui struktur visual cover novel Laut Bercerita versi hard cover karya Leila S. Chudori dan (2) mengetahui keterkaitan struktur visual cover novel tersebut dengan isi cerita. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi dan studi literatur. Analisis data dilakukan dengan teknik triangulasi (reduksi data, sajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan) menggunakan teori desain untuk menjabarkan struktur visual cover novel meliputi gambar, tipografi dan warna. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengaplikasian unsur-unsur visual dan prinsip-prinsip desain membuat struktur visual cover novel Laut Bercerita versi hard cover karya Leila S. Chudori dinamis dan harmonis serta saling berkait dengan isi cerita.

Not only does it serve as a book protector, the cover also acts as the 'face' of a book that can build an impression (visually) to attract readers. Laut Bercerita hard cover version is a historical fiction genre novel with a best seller title written by Leila. S. Chudori and won the S.E.A WRITE Award in 2020. A successful book cover is when all the elements on the cover can be unified and harmonious, which in turn can wrap the work inside. Based on this, this research is a type of descriptive qualitative research that aims to: (1) find out the visual structure of the hard cover version of the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori and (2) find out the relationship between the visual structure of the novel cover and the content of the story. Data were collected through observation and literature study. Data analysis was conducted using triangulation techniques (data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing) using design theory to describe the visual structure of the novel cover including images, typography and colors. The results of the research show that the application of visual elements and design principles makes the visual structure of the hard cover version of the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori dynamic and harmonious and interrelated with the content of the story. Keywords: Novel Cover, Visual Structure, Design
