 <note>ABSTRACT Recurrent cough is the most common cough problem in children. In this condition, mother’s care to child is very important especially in terms of doing selfmedication in children of using of traditional medicine or chemical drugs. This study aimed to determine the relationship between mother’s knowledge about the initial management of recurrent cough in children. This study was an observational analytic with cross-sectional design, using consecutive sampling involving 74 respondents in TK FKIP Unsyiah. Instruments in this study was a questionnaire. Based on the data it showed that mothers who were knowledgeable about choosing self-medication was 78,9%, while mothers with good knowledge who prefered medical doctors was about 52,8% with value probability (p) = 0,005 therefore, the H0 was rejected. The result that there was correlation between mother’s knowledge with initial management of recurrent cough in children.  Keywords : recurrent cough, knowledge, management cough</note>
